Which Electric Vehicles at Kearys Qualify for the New €8,500 EV Scrappage Grant?

The Irish Government's newly announced EV scrappage scheme could make switching to electric more affordable than ever before. Under the proposed first come, first served initiative, eligible motorists could receive up to €8,500 towards the cost of a brand new electric vehicle.
The scheme combines the existing SEAI grant of up to €3,500 with a new scrappage incentive of €5,000 for drivers trading in an eligible petrol or diesel vehicle.
If you are considering making the move to electric, you may be wondering which models qualify. At Kearys, we offer a wide range of electric vehicles across several leading brands that are expected to be eligible under the new scheme.
What Are the Eligibility Rules?
To qualify for the new scrappage incentive, motorists must:
- Trade in a petrol or diesel vehicle that is 2013 or older
- The vehicle log book must be provided
- The car must be taxed and insured at the time of application.
- The NCT must be either valid at the time of application or expired no more than 6 months prior to the application date.
- Vehicles must be owned by the customer 12 months prior to scrapping the vehicle.
- Purchase a new battery electric vehicle
- Choose a vehicle with a list price of €50,000 or less
- Meet any additional scheme requirements once final details are confirmed
With the Government also increasing the EV price cap from €40,000 to €50,000, even more electric vehicles are now expected to qualify.
